About
WHAT YOU'LL FIND HERE
Expert interviews: Researchers and analysts who aren't trying to sell you anything. Data-driven and Toronto-specific where possible, but applicable beyond the GTA.
Brutal honesty: This is not the time for the "script". We've got real problems and the way we're doing things only works for the lucky few. Even though we're knee-deep in over-parenting, those without social padding know we do not actually live in a child-loving society. Let's try to clumsily but earnestly figure out what we can do in spite of that.
Community: A space to be seen, heard and understood by people who are experiencing the same challenges.
Lots of swearing: My dad hates it, but he's finished active parenting so it stays.
About Me
My name is Jordana. I'm an Xennial single parent, communications professional and social observer in Toronto.
Cassandra Is Tired is a pen name, and it applies to everyone who has been yelling this stuff into the void for years. The original Cassandra was a figure in Greek mythology who was given the gift of foresight, but was cursed to never be believed. She then had to watch all the horrible things she warned about come true. As a modern metaphor, Cassandra represents those who are ignored despite having a clear, evidence-based grasp on the truth and who want to prevent others from suffering preventable disaster.
While we can't change entrenched attitudes, systemic abuse or complacency, this blog is a Batman signal for parents who want to come together in a meaningful way. The only antidote to the sense of powerlessness we're feeling at the moment is to stay loud, clear-headed and organized.
This too shall pass. Let's be ready when it does.
